Rescue workers saved a dog that got swept over a waterfall in the Redwood Falls area Saturday. Shylee, a German Shorthair mix, survived the approximate 25-foot fall and scrambled to a ledge where it waited as help arrived, according to a story in the Star Tribune.

The pet's owner had let the dog off its leash to cool off in the water, not realizing how close the dog was to the falls. Shylee made it out of the water and its fast current and found a rock to stand on. You can see the rescue in a short video that accompanies the story.

Redwood Falls firefighters have repelled down the falls in the past to save people who had gotten stranded, but the local police chief was not aware of an animal rescue in his seven years.

The ordeal lasted about an hour. The incident occurred at Ramsey Park in Redwood Falls. The family is from Hutchinson.

In local news, Little Theatre of Owatonna opens Seussical Thursday, July 12.
