Huskies football coach Jeff Williams set the tone for the upcoming campaign with the message this is a different team than the one that won the state 5A championship last November. That team had seniors at nearly every position. The 2014 Huskies have some players adjusting to new positions, several players new to Owatonna or new to football.

Williams said there are many depth chart battles going on as the second week of practice begins with contact drills on Monday. Trey Fails and Alex Emanuelson are dueling for the quarterback spot. Williams is "really, really pleased with how hard both have worked."

The wide receiver spots are wide open. Williams said that might be the biggest question for the team.  He said Saturday's scrimmage at Lakeville South will also be important to determine linebacker rotation.

Defensive lineman Spencer Sorenson walked onto the stage wearing jersey #7. He was used as a fullback in the state title game in November. Williams said Sorenson is 'nimble,' has good hands, and might "have the best arm on the team." Williams looks forward "to experimenting with him on the offensive side of the ball."

The football team will saturate town on Wednesday (August 20) with the Gold Card Blitz. The $20 card supports OHS football and gets you deals at businesses around town.
