The #4 seed Winona Cotter Ramblers defeated the #13 seed Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights 64-51 in Section 1AA girls basketball tournament action in Winona Thursday night.  The Ramblers led 40-18 at the half.  Knights junior Riley Dummer led all players with 24 points and connected on six three point baskets.  Classmate Juliana Boyum had 15 points but it was the same dilemma for K-W.  Not enough defense and a third scorer was needed.

Kenyon-Wanamingo ended their season 7-19.  The Knights graduate just one player Kasandra Keller so nearly everyone is anticipated to be back next year.  Getting physically stronger will be needed to help with handling the ball and rebounding.

In other Section 1AA games top seed Lake City rolled past #16 Chatfield 62-26 and plays Plainview-Elgin-Millville Tuesday at the Mayo Civic Arena in Rochester.  #9 seed PEM upended #8 St. Charles 51-42 to advance to Rochester.

Winona Cotter will play Zumbrota-Mazeppa Tuesday in the Mayo Civic Arena at 7:30 p.m.  The Cougars got a sensational 38 point performance from junior Ali Hunstad in a 73-47 come from behind win over the Byron Bears in Zumbrota.  Byron led 29-26 at the half.  Z-M Head Coach Andy Bromeling's halftime message worked.  The Cougars outscored the Bears 47-21 in the second half.

On the other side of the bracket Monday games will feature #2 seed Caledonia (66-41 victors over #15 Lewiston-Altura) facing #7 seed Dover-Eyota (63-45 winners over #10 Pine Island) at 6:00 p.m.

#3 seed Rochester Lourdes (65-31 defeat of #14 Lacrescent) plays #6 seed Stewartville (69-48 win over #11 Triton) in the late game Monday in the arena.

In Section 1A action Thursday the #2 seed Goodhue Wildcats and #1 seed Grand Meadow had runaways in their openers.  The Wildcats defeated Lanesboro in Goodhue 64-21 and led 40-6 at the half.  Lexie Lodermeier and Joslyn Carlson led the way with 14 points each and the Wildcats were 8 of 14 from the free throw line while the Burros went 3 for 5.

The Super Larks beat Rushford-Peterson 63-26 and has a date with #8 seed Blooming Prairie Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Auditorium.  The Awesome Blossoms got by #9 Randolph 37-35.

Goodhue plays #7 seed Houston Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center.  The Hurricanes beat #10 seed Alden-Conger 63-43 Thursday.

The late game in the Auditorium Monday features #3 seed Hayfield (59-44 winners over Mabel-Canton) going up against #6 seed Kingsland (65-53 victors over #11 Spring Grove) .

In the late game Tuesday defending Class A Champion Lyle/Pacelli faces #12 seed Southland.  The Athletics beat #13 Wabasha-Kellogg 69-42 while Southland upset #5 seed Fillmore Central 75-63.  Lyle/Pacelli now has a 10 game winning streak and has 20 wins this season.  One of those 10 games was a 49-47 squeaker at Southland.
