Know the Rules Before Taking Your Animal to the Fair

It's county fair season. 4-H students have been working hard to prepare their animals for the local fair, dreaming of purple ribbons and a trip to the state fair. The Minnesota Board of Animal Health reminds those who will exhibit an animal at a fair or other event this summer to remember the state rules.

In a news release, the board says animals should have official identification, be free of infections or disease and if coming in from another state should be checked by a veterinarian. Find out more about the proper way method for animal identification here.

Dr. Courtney Wheeler is the senior veterinarian for the Board of Animal Health and says, "We are excited Minnesota fair season is underway and encourage Minnesotans to visit livestock exhibitions at their county fair this summer. We want to make sure that the experience is healthy for both the animals and people by reminding livestock owners of their responsibilities when exhibiting animals."
