Lunch Time

Rachel Valesano, Food Service Director for Owatonna Schools stopped by AM 1390 for our Talk of the Town. There have been a number of yearly updates the last few years in regards to the types of foods, portion sizes and such. New this year is free breakfasts for Kindergartners who are beginning all day kindergarten this year. Also due to the Minnesota legislature those students who were previously eligible for reduced price breakfasts and lunch now receive both meals free. This school year also marks the beginning of Smart Snacks. What snacks can be sold outside of breakfast and lunch during school hours must now be healthy snacks or Smart Snacks.
