(UPDATED)  Owatonna's Briana Hartmann has her first victory at the state tennis tournament! Hartmann won Thursday morning, then lost in the quarterfinals to finish state 1-1.

Hartmann defeated Mounds View sophomore Alexandra Kopiecki 7-6, 6-2 in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Hartmann lost to #2 seed Hayley Haakenstad, a junior from Chanhassen, 6-1, 6-1. Hartmann ends the state tournament at 1-1.

Hartmann has great memories of her two previous trips to state as a sophomore and junior. Now, she would like to get a win! Hartmann is the first girl to qualify for the state singles tournament three times for Owatonna High School. (Not too many years ago Beth Christensen went to state three times, but two of those trips were in doubles.)

Hartmann begins tournament play against a sophomore from Mounds View at 8:00am Thursday. (See the full bracket.)

Hartmann shares her thoughts about winning the section title and her goals for state:

OHS tennis coach Curt Matejcek talks about Briana and the season, which saw the Huskies finish as the section runner-up for the first time in his 20 years as coach!
