The Owatonna boys hockey team never trailed while beating Farmington 3-2 Tuesday night. The OHS girls blanked Waseca 3-0 for their third shutout in the past five games.

Owatonna's boys team escaped some early pressure from the defending section champs, with Jacob Dub making several big saves. The Huskies cashed in just after a penalty ended midway through the first period. A shot from Cam Trout deflected to Nate Smith, who shoved the puck past the Farmington netminder.

The Tigers evened the game at 11:30 of the second period on a power play goal. The Huskies retook the lead about three-and-a-half minutes later on Tyler Wencl's rebound goal.

Early in the third, OHS got some breathing room as Nick Smith finished off a scramble in front of the net for a 3-1 lead. Farmington scored with about three minutes left and had other chances, but Dub finished the game with several other solid stops. Dub was named the Kottke Jewelers Diamond Player of the Game. Owatonna (2-2) hosts Austin on Thursday night.

The OHS girls hockey team blanked Waseca 3-0 to improve to 6-1 on the season. Maylynn Prokopec opened the scoring and Margo Achterkirch added two more. The Huskies outshot Waseca 42-8. Laura Ebeling got the win in goal. Owatonna goes to Austin on Thursday night.

Owatonna and Waseca are Section 1A opponents. The Huskies beat the Blue Jays in last season's playoffs.
