The big hurdle came last Saturday with their come-from-behind win over Albert Lea, but Thursday night the Owatonna wrestlers wrapped up the Big Nine title with a 43-18 win over Faribault at the OHS gym. The Huskies' boys' basketball squad won their 12th in a row Thursday, 73-59 at St. Michael-Albertville. Owatonna's boys' hockey team struck first at No. 2A Mahtomedi, but lost to the speedy Zephyrs 5-1.

The No. 8 wrestlers finished off their second straight unbeaten conference schedule and will be the top seed for sections which begin Thursday, February 15. Owatonna is the defending champ, but will likely face a rematch with Albert Lea in the finals with the Tigers back in AAA.

Owatonna's No. 16 ranked boys' basketball team extended their winning streak with a makeup game victory at St. Michael-Albertville. The game had been postponed early in the season due to the Huskies' state championship football run. On Thursday OHS led 30-17 at the half after a bit of a slow start offensively, but coach Josh Williams said it was one of the better defensive halves of the season. The teams traded points in the second half with OHS getting up by about 20 several times. Dalton Kubista led the way with 18. Andrew Jackson had 17, Jason Williamson 12 and Alex Raichle 10. Owatonna hosts Rochester Mayo Tuesday, February 13.

The Huskies' boys' hockey team scored midway through the first period on a power play goal by Collin Pederson, his first varsity goal. Mahtomedi tied the game late in the first and had too much speed for the Huskies. The Zephyrs won 5-1 and outshot OHS 44-13. Ryan Johnson made numerous spectacular saves to keep the game close. OHS coach Josh Storm said afterward that he was proud of how hard the team played and was happy to get a chance to face a quick team with section playoffs coming up soon. The Huskies go to Rochester Century Saturday for a 7:15PM faceoff.
