Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Heat index readings close to 115-degrees were reported this afternoon in parts of southeastern Minnesota as the region endured an afternoon of scorching heat.

The highest heat indices were found just north of Rochester near Zumbro Falls where the National Weather Service reported a heat index of 113-degrees. The readings were around 110-degrees in the Oronoco and Pine Island areas, while the Rochester Airport reported a heat index of 102-degrees with air temperature readings in the upper 80s to low 90s across the region.

The heat advisory will remain in effect until 8 o’clock this evening and forecasters are predicting the warm and muggy air will fuel strong and possibly severe thunderstorms starting this evening.
