Medford Mayor Lois Nelson was in for Talk of the Town at the KRFO studios on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Nelson mentioned that school has started in Medford and will be starting soon around the area. She reminds drivers to be on the lookout for students as they are walking and biking on their way to and from school. Drive safely around school buses.

The Blandin Leadership Program, with the cities of Blooming Prairie, Ellendale and Medford, has collaborated and selected 24 participants and alternates from the 40 applications that were submitted.

Participants in the program will gain personal insights, tools and techniques to use in their personal and professional responsibilities, which also will benefit their volunteer opportunities or service on community boards. Meetings will begin in October.

Medford is looking for volunteers to help plant more than 1,000 native grasses and flowers on Saturday, Sept. 19. The rain date is set for the following Saturday, the 26th. The planting will begin at 9AM on the West Roundabout. If you would like to volunteer, please call the Medford City Hall at 455-2866.

New trees and plants have not been planted since 2001. The city is expecting to get more plants next year.

The Medford Senior Care Center, only a year old, will be expanding its 16 rooms by eight. The full apartments will be 864 square feet. They are also adding garages.
