Our Fair Talk guest on AM 1390 this week was Sandy Jirele. She's in charge of livestock at the Steele County Free Fair. Under the blanket of livestock, open class horses, dairy along with meat and market goats and sheep and of course a number of animals under 4-H.

Sandy a couple of the areas that are really growing at the fair includes goats. Last year there were around 85 goats shown. The sheep last year was up to 96. Horses are also growing popularity at the fair. As far as downturns concerning livestock, dairy cow numbers that are going down.

A trend noted at the fair is the increasing number of kids living in town that are leasing cattle and other livestock from area farmers. The youngster then is responsible for getting out to the farm, caring for it and teaching it to show. The farm meets city.
