Staff members from U.S. Senator Amy Kobuchar's office will be in our area this week conducting roundtable discussions with citizens on how to make prescription drugs more affordable. Staff members will be in Austin on Thursday, February 7 from 9-10am at the Mower County Senior Center. Later on Thursday they will be at the Owatonna Public Library from 1-2pm. State and local health officials are expected to be a part of the discussion. The public is invited to these roundtables to share their thoughts on prescription drug prices.

Klobuchar recently reintroduced legislation to unleash the bargaining power of seniors for lower prescription drugs. The bill would allow Medicare to negotiate on behalf of consumers in regards to prescription drug prices. Currently only pharmaceutical companies can bargain on prices. The proposed legislation would lift the restriction that prohibits Medicare from negotiating prices.
