The folks at EarthCam.net have just released a time-lapse video of the construction of the St. Croix Bridge. The new bridge which links St. Joseph, Wisconsin, and Oak Park Heights, Minnesota, opened in August after a four-year construction project. The four-lane bridge features a hybrid bridge design that is only the second of its kind in the U.S. EarthCam.net condensed 53 months of construction into a two-minute video which you can check out here.

Watching this video, I can only scratch my head as to how the engineers planned and worked out so many details in constructing this.

This replaces the old Stillwater bridge. I certainly have my share of memories of it. The incredible congestion through downtown Stillwater during rush hour and the weekend. I remember my first car and how I would have to put the gas to the floorboard and even then it barely crept up the hill into Wisconsin.

The old bridge is currently in the midst of a transition to a bike-pedestrian crossing and will become part of a 5-mile loop trail system that will connect to the new bridge. This phase is scheduled to be completed in June 2019.
