The Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation based in Owatonna is accepting applications for a new grant program entitled Communities Address the Child Care Shortage. Child care isn't easy to find and it isn't inexpensive either.

A recent study in the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation's 20 county region find a potential need of over 8,900 licensed child care slots. These grants that are to be offered by the foundation are designed to assist communities in developing action plans to address local child care needs. Each community is unique and the foundation will help develop and implement an individualized action plan with each grand recipient community. Communities may become eligible for grants up to $10,000 as they begin to implement solutions to the child care shortage.

Visit the SMIF web site to learn more. Applications need to be submitted by an independent 501(c)(3), a unit of government or a public agency. The application deadline is January 22, 2019.
