Happy Monday and Happy World Kindness Week! Who knew this week was world kindness week? While it is important to share kindness with yourselves and others, we tend to forget about it and how important it is, especially in today’s world.

As noted by nationaltoday.com, “What started as World Kindness Day turned into World Kindness Week, where everyone is encouraged to make a similar declaration of kindness and charity. The week is celebrated by donating books, food, or clothes to local communities and pledging to empathize with other people.” While these things are highly honored, it is also a week to just remind ourselves that any little act of kindness, whether it’s a sincere compliment or act of gratitude, is welcomed and can go a long way.

Ever since 1997, this week has been designated as world kindness week and National Today shares 5 facts about kindness that will make you say wow!

Kindness is teachable: We are psychologically wired to help someone in need.

Kindness is contagious: Witnessing an act of kindness improves our mood, making us more likely to pay it forward.

Kindness makes you live longer: There’s 44% less chance of dying early if you are kind.

(I don’t know how accurate this is, but hey if there’s a chance that being kind helps me live longer, I’m going to partake in it).

Kindness is a source of serotonin: Like most medical antidepressants, kindness stimulates the production of serotonin.

Kindness has antiaging effects: Perpetually kind people have 23% less stress hormone and age slower than the average population.

And one other beautiful thing National Today notes is that “witnessing acts of kindness produces oxytocin, occasionally referred to as the love hormone, which aids in lowering blood pressure and improving our overall heart health. Oxytocin also increases our self-esteem and optimism, which is extra helpful when we’re anxious or shy in a social situation.”

As briefly mentioned, while spreading kindness to others is important we also need to spread kindness back to ourselves. You deserve as much kindness as you give to those you love.

So I encourage all of you (and myself, too) to not only give and act of kindness each day to another, but also to yourself.
Let me know on Facebook or Twitter (@KatKountry105) what you did and how it impacted you and the other person and I’ll share mine as well. Take care and I hope you have a wonderful week!

You Can Stargaze in This Cute and Cozy Airbnb on Lake Superior!

I was recently recommended this Airbnb, and now I am dying to go, so I thought I’d share it as well. The 16'x20' cabin sits between the forest and Lake Superior. It also shares property and driveway with Agua Norte Loft which is an occasional vacation rental about 4 miles from Grand Marais, but the cabin contains a private unobstructed view of Lake Superior, so you will never really know there is a loft.

Listed in the description of the website this wonderful cozy cabin “is filled with windows to capture the amazing Lake Superior vistas plus a big skylight above the bed to stargaze and watch the Northern Lights. Grab your coffee and walk down to the pebble beach across the road or hang out on the large cedar deck and watch the waves crash on Five Mile Rock.” Like, how can you not immediately want to plan a weekend trip to stay here?
