The Steele County Relay For Life is Friday, July 20 from 6-12AM at the Steele County Fairgrounds. First off you can drop off donations and purchase luminaries for $10 as early as 1PM on Friday. Simply stop by the Radel Building. Another thing to be aware of is the Blood Drive which runs 4-9PM on Friday. Blood donations the week of the 4th were down drastically so the Red Cross has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations.

Thirdly, where does the money go? Of course it supports local research but it also helps families of someone you and I know. Minneapolis and Rochester are home to Hope Lodges where cancer patients can stay for free while undergoing treatment. Some of the money raised this weekend will go towards that cause along with wigs, bras and other items that cancer victims often find necessary.

This is the 25th relay for Steele County and to date some $2 million dollars plus have been raised.

Number 4 on the list is not only will there be entertainment but new this year by the Radel Building is a celebrity dunk tank. Those who have volunteered to get wet include Steele County Sheriff Lon Thiele, Marlin Kath of the Owatonna Fire Department, Nancy Ness of the Steele County Food Line, Taylor Herman of Habitat for Humanity, Ben Maas of the Medford Fire Department, Julie Anderson of Transitional Housing, Kim Schaufenbuel of the Steele County United Way, David Granlund from the People's Press, Jason Lennox from For A Day Foundation, Melissa Mortenson from VIP Kids, and Smash from Wag's. The dunk tank starts at 7PM.

And finally sign up for the Daikin Dash on Saturday are still open. The race begins at 8AM.
