Driving in the Wanamingo area in 2020 might have gotten more interesting with the news of a roundabout coming to the intersection of Highways 57 and 60. Right now traffic traveling on Highway 60 does not have to stop at the intersection, where traffic along 57 has a two way stop controlling the intersection. The cost of the project? $2.9 million dollars.

The project does not currently have a start date other than stating it will begin in 2020 according to the MnDOT construction page. During the project, motorists should prepare for detours as the intersection of Highways 57 and 60 will be closed.

The detours will be as follows according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation;

  • Hwy 60 will be detoured via Goodhue County Roads, 1, 12 and 10
  • Hwy 57 will be detoured via 3rd Street, 9th Avenue & Beverly Street in Wanamingo

In addition to the roundabout being built, there will also be a shared-use path constructed to the east of Hwy 57 for bikes and pedestrian, and MnDOT will also install roadway lighting at the project site.

Five grants totaling $18 million were awarded by the Minnesota Department of Transportation on Monday to communities throughout the state for highway projects intended to boost local business.
