Amy Kyllo the 19-year-old daughter of Paul and Susan Kyllo of Byron was crowned the 66th Princess Kay of the Milky Way Wednesday evening at the Minnesota State Fair. Even though the Minnesota State Fair officially begins today I argue it begins on Wednesday evening with the Princess Kay of the Milky Way coronation.

All County Dairy Princesses can compete at the Statewide event in the spring. At that time 10 finalists were chosen to compete at the Minnesota State Fair for the title of Princess Kay of the Milky Way. In past years 12 finalists were chosen but this year it was changed to 10. During the program former KDHL Farm Broadcaster Rod Johnson introduces each of the 10 finalists with a short interview.

With all the Dairy Princesses standing on the stage Rod opens the envelope and announces three finalists. The three finalists standing in front were on the right Brittney Tiede from Le Center the 18-year-old daughter of Lloyd and Diane Tiede, on the left is Elizabeth Krienke the 19-year-old daughter of Kraig and Rachelle Krienke from Lester Prairie. In the center is 19 year old Amy Kylo the daughter of Paul and Susan Kyllo from Byron.

After Rod opened the envelope with the name of the new Princess Kay of the Milky Way he showed it to the current Princess Kay of the Milky Rebekka  Paskewitz. She took the crown and walked behind each of the finalists holding the crown over their heads. Back and forth she went building the suspense until she finally put the crown on Amy Kyllo!

Before the coronation all the finalists voted for Miss Congeniality and she was Amy Kyllo. Yes, it was quite an evening for Amy being named Miss Congeniality and the 66th Princess Kay of the Milky Way. Amy's first task today is spending about 8 hours in the cooler having her likeness carved out of a block of butter!

Fox 9 in the Twin Cities even live-streamed the ceremony! Click here for the link.
