Halloween is a week away, and the anticipation is revving up for the day. Costumes are being purchased, candy for the trick-or-treaters, and the party invitations are out. This is a great time of year to cuddle up on the couch with a loved one and watch a horror movie, if you like horror movies that is.

Here's the good news, Thrillist put together a list of the Best Horror Movies of All Time, so that takes the guess-work out of which movies to pick. At least if you follow their top 75 list. Some of these movies I had never heard of, but some I have actually seen. (Disclaimer - I am not a horror movie fan, and some of these movies are the reason why.)

Here is the top 5 out of that list of 75 movies:

"Night of the Living Dead" 1968

Yes, it's a classic. Perhaps the start of the Zombie movie craze?

    "Halloween" 1978

Here is where we met Michael Myers, and Jamie Lee Curtis is phenomenal in her role. A bit of trivia  for you, that infamous mask was actually a Captain Kirk mask painted. That's right, they used William Shatner's likeness to make Michael Myers look so danged creepy.

  • Psycho/Paramount

    "Psycho" 1960

Alfred Hitchcock at his absolute best. Who can forget that shower scene? Or the twist at the end. This movie has been redone, parodied, and there was a TV show based on young Norman.

  • The Exorcist/Warner Bros.

    "The Exorcist" 1973

Ok this ranking I agree with. This was a very disturbing movie, dealing with demonic possession and the occult. Very forward for the year it was made, the special effects today look hokey, but, all in all, a very scary movie. Yes, I have seen this one. It didn't bother me as much as others, but, this is one to watch with the lights on.

  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre /Dark Sky

    "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" 1974

Cannibalism and psychopaths, when they cross paths you get Leatherface and kin. I have not seen this movie, nor do I want to. I shudder just looking at the synopsis.
