Blooming Prairie won a thriller over defending section champ Rushford-Peterson Saturday night and will square off with No. 2 ranked Goodhue Saturday at 5PM at Rochester Regional Sports Stadium on Kat Kountry 105FM.

Karson Vigeland intercepted a Rushford-Peterson pass in the end zone in the closing moments of the game to preserve a 21-20 win for the Awesome Blossoms. R-P had scored late in the second quarter on a scoop-and-score to go ahead 12-7.

Blooming Prairie opened the scoring on a keeper by quarterback Seth Peterson for a 7-0 lead. In the second half Peterson connected with Matthew Pryor for a 14-12 lead and hit Colin Lerum for a touchdown and a 21-12 advantage. R-P scored early in the fourth to make it 21-20.

The win reversed the result of the regular season meeting with the Trojans. Now the Blossoms (8-2) are hoping for a similar outcome when they square off with unbeaten Goodhue (10-0) Saturday. The Wildcats beat BP 35-13 on September 29. It was one of the Wildcats closest games of the season.

Blooming Prairie has advanced to state three times during coach Chad Gimbel's tenure, most recently in 2014, which ended a string of eight straight appearances in the section final.
