Caledonia Advances Other Section One Teams Fall at State Boys Basketball
Caledonia Warriors senior 6'2 Eli King executed multiple stuffs including a reverse dunk at the Target Center tonight in their 51-40 win over the Perham Yellowjackets.
King had 7 rebounds, 5 steals in the first half of their Class 2 Quarterfinal round game. The Iowa State Commit finished the game with 17 points. Two points under his season average. He also had 8 rebounds, 5 assists.
All of Kings field goals in the first half were stuffs as the Warriors enjoyed a 29-18 lead at the half. Caledonia enjoyed a 14-8 advantage in the Maui Wowi of Faribault paint. The Warriors also converted 11 Perham turnovers into 13 points. The YellowJackets never led in the game. The score would have been closer at the half had Perham hit their free throws. In the first half they were 2 of 9 from the free throw line while the Warriors were 3 for 3.
Perham had the lead down to single digits a couple times but never had a lead in the contest.
Senior 6'3 J'Shon Simplson had 11 points, 7 rebounds and Senior 5'10 Thane Meiners added 10 points for Caledonia.
Perham was led by junior 6'4 Micah Thompson with 14 points, 11 rebounds. The Yellowjackets were a plus 8 on the glass (33 to 25).
Caledonia shot 45 percent from the field, Perham 37 percent. The Warriors had 6 three point baskets, the Yellowjackets 5.
Caledonia (28-1) now plays the Annandale Cardinals (29-2) in the Class 2A Semifinals game at 8:00 p.m. Friday in Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus.
Annandale defeated Pequot Lakes 55-40 after holding the Tigers to 10 second half points. The Cardinals had three players in double figures including Robert Olson with 10 points, 11 rebounds .
On the other side of the bracket Minneapolis North (26-6) got by Glencoe-Silver Lake (20-10) 74-69. The Polars trailed 38-37 at the half.
Willie Wilson led Minneapolis North with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists. Gani Stevens added 14 points, 10 rebounds.
Mitchel Jaskowiak had 37 points, 5 rebounds for G-S-L.
The Polars shot 64.6 percent for the game while Glencoe-Silver Lake hit 44 percent of their shots.
There were 10 lead changes and 5 ties in the highly competitive contest. The big disparity in points in the paint favored Minneapolis North 54 to 26.
Morris Area/Chokio Alberta (28-2) advanced to Semifinals with a 71-67 win over #4 seed Minnehaha Academy (17-11).
Four players reached double figures for the Tigers led by Thomas Tiernan with 20 points.
The RedHawks were paced by Prince Aligbe with 36 points, 14 rebounds. The Buji Action Coach Randy Yoder Northfield Keys to the Game were Morris Area/Chokio Alberta scoring 46 points in the Maui Wowi of Faribault paint and their 18 points off turnovers.
Morris Area/Chokio Alberta faces Minneapolis North Friday night at 6:00 p.m. in Class 2A Semifinals competition.

Class 4A Quarterfinals
Top seed, #1 rated in final Minnesota Basketball News poll Park Center (29-1) defeated Andover (19-11) 74-60. The Pirates owned the glass with 39 rebounds compared to 19 for the Huskies.
Park Center (29-1) was led by Leo Torber with 20 points while Andover's leading scorer was Ben Kopetzki with 16 points.
#2 seed Owatonna (27-3) led most of the way but lost to Cretin-Derham Hall (20-10) 52-51. Michigan State recruit Tre Hollomon led the Raiders with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists while Owatonna was led by the Huskies all-time leading scorere Evan Dushek with 17 points, 8 rebounds.
Cretin-Derham Hall had 38 points in the Maui Wowi of Faribault paint while shooting 50 percent from the field for the game while the Huskies shot 38 percent
Neither team shot free throws well. Owatonna was 12 of 19 and the Raiders were 4 of 8.
The Huskies will play at Noon Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Concordia University in St. Paul. The game will be broadcast on KRFO Radio, 1390 AM and the KRFO app beginning 11:30 a.m.
Their opponent is the Moorhead Spuds (17-13) mashed by the Wayzata Trojans (26-4) 71-28. The halftime score was 37 to 11.
Wayzata will play Cretin-Derham Hall in a rematch of last year's state title game in Class 4A. 8:00 p.m. is scheduled tip-off at Williams Arena on Thursday, March 24, 2022.
The Eastview Lighting (23-6) defeated Eden Prairie (19-11) 67-51 in the othe Class 4A Quarterfinal round contest at Target Center Tuesday.
The Eagles were down 40-22 at the half in a game that had 14 lead chances and 4 ties.
The Lightning had 34 rebounds compared to 21 for Eden Prairie. Eastview shot 52 percent compared to 41 percent.
The Lightning had 12 second chance points compared to 3 for the Eagles.
Eastview plays Park Center in the other Class 4A Semifinal game Thursday, March 245, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.
Class 3A Quarterfinals
Top seed, Top QRF, #2 rated Totino-Grace (24-6) scored a 83-50 win over the Hermantown Hawks (21-9) at Williams Arena. The Eagles soared to a 46-25 halftime lead. Points in the Maui Wowi Faribault paint were 50-12 in favor of Totino-Grace and points of turnovers were 24 to 3.
The Eagles led by as many as 40 points in the game.
Totino-Grace will play Noon Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Williams Arena against Big Nine Conference representative Mankato East (22-8) in a Class 3A Semfinals game.
The Cougars defeated the Mound Westonka White Hawks 68-55. The Randy Yoder Buji Action Coach Northfield key to victory was the ability by Mankato East to score 25 points off 19 Mound Westonka turnovers.
Bajedo Omot led the Cougars with 25 points, going 10 for 13 from the free throw line.
Mankato East was 20 of 28, Mound Westonka 12 of 15 from the free throw line.
On the other side of the bracket the Princeton Tigers (26-2) beat Austin (17-13) 73-63.
Princeton was a plus 9 on the glass with two guys achieving double-doubles.
Haydyn Stay had 23 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, Cooper Drews added 22 points 12 rebounds for the winning Tigers.
Austin had 2 three point baskets, Princeton 9 in the game at Williams Arena. The Packers were paced by Ater Manyuon with 17 points. Cham Okey tallied 14 points, 7 rebounds and Victor Idris added 11 points, 8 rebounds.
Austin goes to St. Pau to play St. Cloud Tech in the Consolation round. They play 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
DeLaSalle got by St. Cloud Tech 69-57 at Williams Arena Tuesday. Kyle Johnson was very efficient offensively and led all players with 19 points. The Islanders also got an 11 rebound performance from Brandon Hoban who added 9 points, 4 assists.
DeLaSalle had 17 assists on 26 field goals while St. Cloud Tech was credited with 5 assists on 23.
The Islanders and Princeton play Semifinals action 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
