Mantorville, MN (KROC-AM News) - A traffic accident this morning in Mantorville involving a man riding a bike and a piece of construction equipment proved fatal for the bicyclist.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a residential area in southwest Mantorville just before 7:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a person who had witnessed the incident and found the victim on the ground and unresponsive. He was identified as 81-year-old Darrel Faulkner and was run over by a water tanker truck owned by Elcor Construction.

Investigators believe he was riding his bike along the road while the operator of the truck was driving along the north side of the roadway and watering new sod that had been installed as part of a road construction project in the neighborhood. The driver reported he did not see the elderly bicyclist.

The State Patrol assisted with the accident reconstruction investigation and inspection of the construction truck. At this point, Dodge County officials say charges are not expected to be filed against the truck driver.
