2017 legislation resulted in some changes for those who enjoy the great outdoors in Minnesota. There were some adjustments in licenses for hunting and fishing. There were also changes in regards to ice houses.

If you plan on using a wheelhouse type of ice or dark house shelter this ice fishing season, you are now required to purchase a license to place that shelter on the ice. Legislation now states that a portable shelter is one that collapses, folds or is disassembled when being moved. This portable shelter only needs a license when a person leaves it unattended. Al Stevens, systems consultant with the Minnesota DNR states that wheeled fish houses which used to be considered portable and excluded from licensing now need to be licensed.

An annual resident shelter license is $16 and a three-year license is $43. Owners of house to be rented pay $31 per year or $88 for three years.

More information on licenses and changes can be found at the Minnesota DNR web site.
