Dodge Center to Receive MnDOT Grant

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced another round of awards in its "Safe Routes to School" program. Among the recipients was the city of Dodge Center. In all a total of 2.3 million dollars will be awarded to 63 cities and school districts across the state.

The grants may be used for sidewalks, trails and crossing improvements along with safety instruction in the classroom. It may also be used for crosswalk markings, flashing beacons and other traffic control devices. The goal of the awards is to help promote safer walking and bicycling to school in the states. Research shows only about a third as many students walk or ride bike school as they did in the 1960's.

Historically almost 70% of these awards have gone to help within Greater Minnesota communities. MnDOT has awarded more than $38 million dollars in this program since 2005.
