Michael stopped the group and gave them a 'ticket.' The ticket was a coupon for a free Dairy Queen treat!

As part of an effort to encourage kids to wear their helmets, the Owatonna Police Department is on the prowl for kids correctly wearing safety helmets while on bikes, scooters, skateboards, and in-line skates. If caught, your child will receive a voucher for a free small cone at Dairy Queen.

The promotion is brought to the public by AAA, Safe Kids Minnesota, Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths Coalition, the Minnesota Chief of Police Association, the Minnesota Sheriff's Association, and participating Dairy Queen restaurants.

According to a 2013 study from the Bike Helmet Safety Institute, 57 bicycle-related fatalities could be prevented by using a protective helmet. In fact, over 135 deaths, 40,000 head injuries, and 20,000 scalp and face injuries could be avoided through the use of helmets in kids ages 4-15.

In summary, it is EXTREMELY important to encourage your children to use helmets.

Dairy Queen's summer blizzard treats include a Girl Scout Thin Mints, Brownie Batter, DRUMSTICK with peanuts, Frosted Animal Cookie, Raspberry Fudge Bliss, and Cotton Candy.

In other words, when you bring your child in to redeem their coupon, you'll simply have to try one of these summer treats because they sound DELICIOUS! It's a win-win.

Remind your kids to strap up! Hopefully, they will, especially now that ice cream is involved.
