Downtown Rochester, Minnesota is about to get a glow-up! Two Rochester artists have been selected and are going to be doing some amazing art in the downtown area this spring.

The City of Rochester was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and they decided to use it towards some amazing murals that will be painted downtown.

In a press release, they said "The City of Rochester recognizes the importance of a high-quality pedestrian experience and cultural infrastructure to the continued success of downtown Rochester." I would totally agree, and this would go for any downtown area. If it looks like it's been well-cared for people are more likely to spend time in the area.

The areas downtown that are going to see this glow-up are alleyways and crosswalks. The goal is to "encourage the public to pause to experience these places, rather than just using them to get from point A to B."

There are two local artists who will be taking on this project, Amy Krause (first picture below) and Tierney Parker (second picture below).

I haven't seen any of Tierney's work but Amy's picture shows a past piece she's done and I love it! So I'm really excited to see the beauty both of them will bring to downtown Rochester.

Over the next few weeks, Amy and Tierney will be taking community input and designing their final product. Towards the end of May is when we'll see the murals start to take shape. On Tuesday, April 11th they'll be at the Chateau Theater downtown between 11 AM and 12:30 PM sharing their ideas and taking any ideas from the public.
