The Cannon Falls Bears rolled by the Randolph Railcats 15-5 and Dundas Dukes notched a 10-4 victory over the Northfield Knights during July 4th afternoon games.  These were traditional rivalry games and Classic Cannon Valley League contests.

At John Burch Park in Cannon Falls Randolph had more hits in the game that ended in the 7th inning due to the 10 run rule.  The Railcats collected 14 hits, Bears 12 hits.  Randolph had 4 errors and Cannon Falls 1 error in the game.

Jared Woodward got the win throwing the first 4 innings with 9 hits allowed, 4 runs, 3 earned, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts.  Keith Meyers threw the final 3 innings for the save allowing 5 hits, 1 earned run, 2 strikeouts.

Brock Peterson swung a hot bat for the Bears with 2 hits including a double and 3 rbi, Tanner Jackson had 2 hits including a double and 3 rbi, Keith Meyers a hit and 3 rbi, Jacob Christenson 2 hits including a double and 1 rbi, Alex Tauer had 2 hits.

Randolph utilized four pitchers in the game with starter Hunter Goodwin taking the loss.  Goodwin threw the first two innings with 8 hits allowed, 7 runs, 6 earned, 1 strikeout.  The other pitchers were Justin King one inning, Maverick Carlson one inning and Dylan Bergstad finished the final two innings.  King and Carlson combined for 8 walks in the contest.

The top 5 hitters in the Railcats batting order each had 2 hits with Drew Weidner and Holt Goodwin clubbing solo homers. Grant Otte, Dylan Bergstad and Bobby Eckert were the others.  Nick Drinken also had two hits including a double in the 8th position in the order.

Cannon Falls improved to 8-12, Randolph is still looking for their first win according to their page on the Minnesota Baseball Association website.  The two teams have a makeup game July 15th in Randolph.

The Railcats next game is Friday, July 12 at Red Wing.  The Bears travel to Hastings Sunday at 2:00 p.m. to play the Hawks and Wednesday host the Owatonna Aces at 7:30 p.m.

Dundas hosted Northfield on Thursday with another hit fest breaking out.  The Dukes had 17 hits and Knights 15 hits in the game.  Neither team committed an error.  The Mathison brothers faced each other on the hill.  Todd got the win and Jake was saddled with the loss.

Dundas jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, added a run in the sixth and 4 runs in the eighth.  Northfield had a run in the third inning and rallied for 3 runs in the ninth inning.

Todd Mathison gave up 9 hits in 7 innings and allowed an earned run with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.  He also hit a batter.  Matt Neuger went the final two innings with 6 hits allowed, 3 earned runs, 1 walk and a hit batter.

Knights starter Jake Mathison also threw 7 innings with 13 hits given up, 6 earned runs, no walks and no strikeouts.  Eli Petrikus threw an inning with 4 hits allowed, 4 earned runs, a walk and one strikeout.

Dundas first baseman Jonathan Bishop went 5 for 5 at the plate with a double and two rbi.  Carson Jones had a three hit day with 4 RBI and was just a triple away from hitting for the cycle.  Catcher Tyler Jones had 3 hits and 3 RBI.

Kenyon-Wanamingo graduate Drew Sathrum started at second base and batted eighth but was unable to join in the Dukes hit parade.

With the win Dundas is 14-4, Northfield suffered their 6th loss with 17 wins on the other side of the ledger.  The two teams are tied for first place in the Classic Cannon Valley League with the Hampton Cardinals, Rochester Royals and Miesville Mudhens right on their heels.

The Knights host Elko Wednesday night 7:30 p.m. at Sechler Park while the Dukes host Rochester Sunday at 2:00 p.m.  The D-R-S leading New Market Muskies are in Dundas on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Another CCVL game Thursday resulted in a Hampton 4-3 win over Hastings. The Hawks had 12 hits and the Cardinals 7 hits in the game.  Hastings collected 2 errors while Hampton played error free ball.

Adam Stockwell was the winning pitcher, Marcus Fredrickson had a save.  Jordan Jeske suffered the loss.

The home team Cardinals scored 3 of their runs in the second inning and got what proved to be the winning run in the 7th.  The Hawks scored runs in the 3rd, 8th and 9th.

Hampton ( 8-6) hosts Miesville Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and Hastings ( 3-10)  is in Cannon Falls the same time, same day.
