An effort to 'beat the weather' didn't work out so well. But the Owatonna High School girls' lacrosse team still earned a lightning-shortened victory 12-2 at Rochester John Marshall Monday. Coaches and game officials decided at the last moment to switch the varsity and junior varsity games with threatening weather approaching.

OHS built an 11-2 first-half lead in humid, windy, sunny conditions. Rain began to fall at halftime and lightning flashed about five-and-a-half minutes into the second half with the Huskies up 12-2. Officials announced a thirty-minute delay even as the rain was stopping.

Just as it appeared the weather may have moved on, more lightning forced the hand of officials, who called the game with 19:27 remaining in the second half.

Madison McGinn and Anni Moran each scored four goals for Owatonna for a season sweep of the Rockets. OHS got goals from Karmen Eaton, Lauren Busho, Hannah St. Martin, and Audrey Simon as well.

The Huskies host Mankato Thursday, May 12 at 7:15 pm at OHS and entertain Farmington Saturday, May 14 in a key section seeding game.
