Additional Information

The Crisis Resource Center of Steele County (CRC), formerly Women’s Resource Center, will hold the 18th Annual “Healing the Hearts of Our Children” luncheon on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Owatonna Country Club in Owatonna. There will be a program by Leigh Block a survivor of domestic violence, whose ex-husband murdered their 5-year-old daughter and then took his own life. Leigh hopes her story will raise awareness of the impact of violence on families and communities.
This year, the Crisis Resource Center set a goal of $15,000. Sara Colby, Executive Director of the Crisis Resource Center said “Children who grow up witnessing domestic violence are among those most seriously affected by this crime. Frequent exposure to violence in the home not only predisposes children to numerous social and physical problems but also teaches them that violence is a normal way of life—thereby increasing their risk of becoming society's next generation of victims and abusers. The Abused Children’s Program has been in existence since 1993 and last year, the Program provided 1,784 services to 333 children.
The Mission of the Crisis Resource Center is to provide support and confidential services to individuals affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence. CRC is also committed to reducing the incidence of domestic abuse and sexual violence by providing education to all members of the communities we serve.

Luncheon tickets are $30 and if people are unable to attend the luncheon, donations can be dropped off at the Crisis Resource Center. $2.00 raffle tickets are also available by calling
451-1202. Colby stated, “We are committed to continuing the same level of services to child survivors of abuse in Steele County and in these challenging financial times, we need everyone’s help preserving these services for our children”.

The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, March 15th and tickets can be purchased by calling CRC at 507-451-120 or stopping at the Crisis Resource Center at 125 West Front Street in Owatonna 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
