Faribault Chamber President Says More Equity Needed in Education Funding
Nort Johnson, President/CEO of the Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism touched on a topic today near to his heart.
Public school education funding. Johnson told KDHL AM Minnesota listeners he would like to see more equity in the per pupil funding formula.
Johnson says the state has billions of surplus dollars and school districts like Faribault are making cuts.
Johnson added the word equity gets used a lot and there are different translations for the word.
The Faribault Area Chamber Trust is looking into getting funding for a new position surrounding inclusion and diversity within the community.
Johnson emphasized the Chamber has strong relationships with the Public Schools and South Central College as well as Shattuck and Bethlehem Academy.
Johnson also reminded us May is Small Business Month and the local Chamber will celebrate business on May 12, 2022 at the Faribault Golf and Country Club, 1700 17th Street NW with their annual Chamber Business Awards Luncheon.
Registration is required, Johnson recommends you register before the day of the event.
The lunch and program are from Noon to 1:00 p.m.
The three finalists chosen for Business of the Year in Faribault will be honored along with some people providing outstanding service to customers of various businesses.
Businesses celebrating milestones and an Education Award will also be announced.
