Cheryl Wendt, in charge of the Free Food Market at the recently opened Community Action Center of Faribault stopped by KDHL today.

According to feedingamerica.org in Minnesota 432,170 people are facing hunger with 147,340 of them children.  That's 1 in 13 Minnesotans.  1 in 9 children.

Six Feeding America Food Banks serve Minnesota.  Wendt says they can stretch their purchasing power more than the general public so when you donate dollars to the food shelf they purchase needed items at about double what the average consumer pays.

The Free Food Market is located in Suite 8 of Cannon Circle in Faribault.  It is intentionally set up to have the look and feel of a grocery store.

Food Shelves typically requested non-perishable food items.  The Food Market has milk, eggs, fresh produce, etc. in an effort to promote healthy eating.

They are open mornings two days a week and evenings two days a week in an attempt to serve more people.

The Community Action Center of Faribault is always in need of volunteers to help stock shelves or be greeters to visitors.
