Faribault Fire Chief Talks Water Safety on KDHL
Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst stops by KDHL to discuss water safety and other topics on AM Minnesota 9:30 this morning. With the weather forecast calling for significantly warmer temperatures more people will probably be venturing onto area waters. Chief Dienst wants people to be safe so he will have some tips for us.
The heat is also something we really have not experienced yet this year so I'm sure he will touch on heat stress also. The elderly and young are most susceptible but all of us can experience heat stroke, also called sun stroke. Symptoms include confusion, red, dry or damp skin, headache, and dizziness.
Heat stroke or Sun stroke occurs because of high external temperatures or physical exertion in extreme heat. Onset can be sudden or gradual. Complications can include kidney failure.
The heat index is a formula used to determine the discomfort felt as a result of the combined effects of the temperature and humidity in the air.
