Faribault Falcons senior quarterback Hunter Nelson accounted for over 400 yards of total offense in a 40-0 home win tonight over the Winona Winhawks.

It took a few series for the Faribault offense to get on track but once it did the big plays fans have been accustomed to this season continued.

Before the game we said the Tom's Lock and Key of Faribault keys to the game for the Falcons would be to defend a speedy Winhawks running back.

In last week's 42-41 loss at Kasson-Mantorville speed killed in a big way.

Winona junior running back 5'11 170 pound Dominic Davis has speed to burn but the Falcons defense did a nice job bottling him up and not allowing him to break free for any scores.

Davis finished the night with 88 yards on 16 carries.

Meanwhile Nelson rushed for 99 yards on 8 runs and was 18 of 24 passing for 305 yards and three touchdowns.

Nelson hit senior Isaac Mata on a 52 yard TD with :18 to go in the first quarter.  The two point run attempt was no good.

Nelson then threw a 38 yard scoring strike to Jordan Klecker with 6:32 to go in the half.  A two point pass attempt was no good.

1:40 to go in the half senior Matthias Lenway ran 13 yards into the end zone.  A two point pass attempt was again no good.

:17 to go in the first half AJ Worrell caught a 25 yard touchdown pass from Nelson.  A two point pass to Johnny Frank was good from Nelson.

The halftime score was 26-0.

The Falcons scored twice in the third quarter before running time came into play in the fourth quarter of the Tackle Cancer night at Bruce Smith Field.

With 7:46 to go in the third quarter Lenway had a 1 yard TD.

Then at the 4:37 mark Nelson had a 20 yard touchdown run.  JJ Schrot kicked extra points after those final two scores.

Faribault finished the night with 512 yards of total offense with Nelson running and throwing for 404 of them.  He was named our Malecha's Auto Body of Faribault Crunch Time Offensive Player of the Game.

6'3 207 pound junior Beau Schrot was our Malecha's Crunch Time Defense Player of the game.  Schrot had an interception and fumble recovery in the game.

Ian Ehlers and Johnny Frank also picked off the Winona quarterback.

Last week the Falcons had 4 turnovers and Kasson-Mantorville none.

This week the Winhawks had 4 turnovers and Faribault none.

Klecker led receivers with 6 catches for 96 yards. Frank had 4 for 47 yards. Worrell 3 receptions for 29 yards.  Ian Ehlers 2 for 77, Mata 2 for 51 and Lenway 1 for 5 yards.

Ehlers led the tackle charts with 6 total.  Elijah Hammonds finished with 5.5 total and two for loss.  5 were solo.  Schrot had 5.5 total.  George Soto 5 total, 1 for loss.

Winona fell to 3-3 with the loss while the Falcons improved to 4-2.

Faribault goes to Mankato East next Friday before ending their season at home Wednesday, October 20, 2021 against Northfield.  Then it's playoff time.

Winona entertains Stewartville next Friday and goes to Rochester Century on the Wednesday of MEA week.
