Faribault New Holiday Tradition Grows Out of COVID

At least one good thing came out of the pandemic in Faribault.

The Faribault Parks and Recreation Department wanted to come up with a safe way to celebrate the holidays during the COVID pandemic in 2020.

They came up with a decorated tree idea whereby businesses would sponsor the trees and the St. Vincent DePaul Society would find needy families to take the trees a couple weeks before Christmas and enjoy them in their homes.

It grew from over 20 trees in 2020 to over 30 last year and Brad Phenow, Communications Director for the City of Faribault says there are over 40 trees this year.

Phenow told KDHL while he was assisting people decorating the trees today (Monday, November 28, 2022) this is clearly a win for everybody involved.

Phenow confirmed as of Monday there were over 47 trees provided.

A special event is being conducted this Friday in conjunction with Winterfest in downtown Faribault.

They had perfect weather with temperatures in the 40's while putting the trees up in Central Park today.
