Nancy Ness of the Steele County Food Shelf was a guest on AM 1390's Talk of the Town. The Shelf is ever so close to their goal of $100,000 for March Food Share Month. As of March 26, the food shelf has collected $97,869 leaving them less than 3 grand from their goal. Last March the shelf took in around $124,000 along with almost 56,000 pounds of food.

The food shelf needs to send in their tabulated donations by April 8 to qualify for matching funds. As many know, cash goes a lot further for the Steele County Food Shelf courtesy of the Channel One Food Bank. For example, a case of cereal can be purchased for around $1.50.

You can help out with a donation by going to the Steele County Food Shelf web site and donate online.Cash and checks may be dropped off at the food shelf during regular hours.

Food Shelf usage was fairly high in January and February this year but appears to be a bit slower so far in March. Food items that are always in demand but not always thought of when it comes to donations include pickles, salad dressings and spices.

So close, let;s do it.
