Saturday, July 29th, was a beautiful day outside, blue skies, white fluffy clouds, and highs in the mid-80's. It was a great day to participate in water sports, yard work, or in my case, watch a softball tournament.

Minnesota Special Olympics hosted their regional softball tournament in Waconia, and as my daughter is a registered Unified Partner, that meant a day watching Owatonna's teams playing softball. In the sun, and as you might imagine, not much shade on a ball diamond.

I don't know what I was thinking, not applying any sunscreen. I guess I thought that since I have already been out in the sun so much this summer, and that I have already been burned a little once, I would not burn again. To be completely honest, I really didn't even think about applying any sunscreen, that was the last thing on my mind. I was more concerned with staying hydrated.

I definitely regret that decision, as I was more than red when I got home. The picture here, while it is not a self-portrait, pretty accurately depicts the lovely burn lines I had. You can tell I was wearing sunglasses, with the nice tan/burn lines on my nose! I have learned my lesson, it doesn't matter how much I have been in the sun, I need to wear my sunscreen if I am planning to be outside.

Take it from me, apparently the older you get, the easier you burn, so cover up with sunscreen, wear a hat, and take care of your skin. The day did end up going very well, all of the Owatonna teams did great in their games.
