The 5th annual Gopher State Archeological Society Show returns to the Steele County Historical Society on Saturday, March 30. The free show runs from 9-3pm. This even includes many of the region's largest and most complete private collections.

A number of the collections will feature personally found artifacts from Steele County and the state. The displays cover all time periods. They go back as far as 8,000 years ago.

Examples of items you can check out include copper knives, fish hooks, harpoons, spear-points, beads and bracelets. There will also be stone arrowheads, knives, stone axes, copper tools, furs, bead work and more.

On a side note, the Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums announces that they will be honoring a number of history projects with a Minnesota History Award. Locally the award will be presented to the Steele County Historical Society and author Barry Adams for their publication "Steele County in the Civil War". The awards will be handed out in April at the Annual Meeting and Conference in Red Wing.
