Not that I need them, but it's hard for me to pass up those wonderful Girl Scout cookies. As a former Boy Scout leader, I know how hard it is to do fundraising, and so I always try to support the Girl Scouts in their cause.

More than 21,000 scouts will start going door to door on Saturday, Feb. 11. And the sale goes through March 26. This is the 100th year that the girls will be selling those cookies. The program helps teach life skills to the girls: goal setting, money management, decision making, people skills and business ethics.

The River Valley Council serves 44 counties in Minnesota, four in Wisconsin and one in Iowa. They are a top 5 selling council (out of 112) in the country. They offer nine varieties of cookies. Thin Mints (my favorite), Caramel Delites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbreads, Lemonades, Thanks-a Lots, and a new one this year - Girl Scout S'mores. They also offer a gluten-free cookie, Trios. All the cookies except Trios sell for $4 a box. Trios sell for $5 per box.

Seventy percent of the money raised stays in the council. On Presidents Day, Feb. 20, Girl Scouts will focus on collecting donations to give cookies to our servicemen and women through their "Red White and You" day.

You should be able to find the cookies for sale at your local Cub Foods or go to girlscoutsrv.org to find a cookie booth near you. There is also an app than can be downloaded for your Android or iPhone.

On Thursday, Roy Koenig and Loren Hart from KRFO/Kat Kountry 105 and I had a chance to sample the new S'mores cookie. Here's a video of our opinions of it.
