Haley Hinrichs, the daughter of Tim Hinrichs of Goodhue, was crowned the 63rd Princess Kay of the Milky Way last evening at the Minnesota State Fair Bandshell. Early this spring there was a statewide training session and competition for all County Dairy Princesses. Twelve Dairy Princesses are chosen to compete for the title of Princess Kay of the Milky Way. There is a short interview with each of the 12 Princesses and then the three finalists are announced. The three finalists stand in front and the current Princess Kay of the Milky Way takes the crown to place on the new Princess Kay of the Milky Way. Of course she moves the crown back and forth between the finalists before finally placing the crown on the next Princess Kay of the Milky Way.

Haley's first task today is to spend 8-10 hours in the cooler having her likeness carved out of a big block of butter. The cooler with big glass windows is in the Dairy Building, so if you are at the Minnesota State Fair be sure to stop by and see it. The other 11 Dairy Princesses will each take their turn in the cooler each day of the Minnesota State Fair. Hayley is the official good will ambassador for Minnesota's Dairy Industry. She studies agriculture and life science education at Iowa State University. Way to go Haley!
