UPDATE (7/22/20 2:20 PM): Governor Walz has announced that the Minnesota statewide mask mandate will begin Saturday. READ MORE HERE.

Original Story:

Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz, will hold a press conference today at 2:00 PM to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic and the state's next steps to combat it. News Talk 1340 KROC-AM & 96.9 FM will air the press conference live and stream it on their mobile app and website.

There hasn't been any official confirmation on whether or not the Governor will issue a statewide mask mandate, but many people are speculating that he will based on his previous comments. Last week, Walz said he was "seriously considering" the requirement, and yesterday he said, "The simplest thing we can do to get back in school, the simplest thing we can do to open up and make sure our businesses remain open like they are, and the simplest thing that Republicans can do to make sure that I don’t have to take executive actions around the pandemic, is to wear a mask."

Yesterday, while speaking about nursing homes in the state, Walz was asked about masks and said that businesses across the state have been telling him that they support the idea, and last week the Minnesota Hospital Association asked Governor Walz to issue the mandate to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Don't expect a decision on schools reopening today. The Governor says that announcement will come next week. Listen to the press conference today at 2:00 PM on News Talk 1340 KROC-AM & 96.9 FM.
