The Minnesota Basketball News came out with their latest rankings Friday and the positions of the #3 and #4 Class 1A teams were switched.  Goodhue dropped to #4 and undefeated Grand Meadow jumped to #3.  The Super Larks were the better team in a 49-42 victory at home over the Wildcats Friday night.

The game started with Goodhue opening up a 6-0 run and not allowing Grand Meadow to even get the ball past mid-court on three of their first four possessions. The Super Larks did adjust but the Wildcats had multiple opportunities to extend a lead.  Grand Meadow had 11 first half turnovers and Goodhue only converted two of them into points.  The Wildcats had 5 first half turnovers and the Super Larks also converted two of them into points.  The game was tied at the half at 20.

In basketball (just as in most sports) the most aggressive team usually wins and Grand Meadow was the more aggressive team.  Goodhue had a height advantage with 6'3 Lexie Lodermeier in the post but couldn't get her the ball enough.  Lodermeier finished the game with 18 points while going 10 for 12 from the free throw line and hitting her last 10 free throws.  That obviously means she had 4 field goals in the game and only one in the second half.  The Super Larks had a couple of 5'9 girls primarily defend the post.  They made it difficult to get Lodermeier the ball by being very physical with her.

Grand Meadow did bang the glass better than Goodhue.  In particular 5'9 junior Riley Queensland was impressive getting after rebounds.  It should be noted the Wildcats were without one of their best rebounders in 5'9 freshman Joslyn Carlson out with a ankle injury.  Hannah Gadient saw her first action on the hardwood for Goodhue after missing a couple games with a knee injury.

Grand Meadow senior 5'10 Jordyn Glynn scored her 2,000th point in the game and was honored during a Goodhue timeout.  It was pretty cool to see Goodhue players and coaches applauding her for the accomplishment along with many Wildcats and Super Larks fans.

Glynn finished the game with 24 points.  She was 8 of 9 from the free throw line.

The stat of the game was 17 Grand Meadow turnovers that Goodhue only cashed in three times for 7 points while the Super Larks had 7 points off 9 Wildcats turnovers.  That is not a statistic usually experienced by Goodhue.  Over the years they have turned turnovers into points with regularity.

Goodhue was 11 of 18 from the free throw line.  Grand Meadow 14 of 17.

Goodhue Head Coach Josh Wieme acknowledged the winner of the game would probably be the top seed in the Section 1A Tournament in a couple weeks when we got our Grover Auto of Zumbrota keys to the game.  He added there is a lot of basketball to be played before the possibility of a rematch with the Super Larks.

If that happens it would probably be in the title game for the right to go to state and Coach Wieme would be happy to get there.

Goodhue dropped it's second game of the week and is now 17-5.  Grand Meadow is 21-0 hosts Class 2A #16 Winona Cotter Tuesday then has defending Class A Champion Lyle/Pacelli in the Super Larks gym Friday.

The Wildcats close out their season with a trip to the Bombers Hangar Tuesday and a home game with #6 rancked Class 2A Rochester Lourdes.
