The Veterans' Adventure Group is holding a gravity-defying event Saturday, August 26. Justin Matejcek, of Owatonna, is a U.S. Army veteran and the founder of the organization. He will host activities on the family farm at 5174 NE 64th Ave., Owatonna, from 2-6PM. It is open to the public and free to attend.

Matejcek will lead a skydive to open the event, weather permitting. Members of the public can rappel off a 65-foot grain silo. All equipment is provided, along with expert advice and encouragement. All is free. For those who want to keep their feet on the ground at all times, there will be yard games. Watch the Veterans' Adventure Group Facebook page for weather updates.

The get together is designed to thank the public for its support the Veterans' Adventure Group, which focuses on rehabilitating veterans through challenging events and tasks. Previous events have included mountain climbing, SCUBA diving and ultra marathons. Matejcek is a 2006 Owatonna High School graduate and served two tours of Afghanistan. He explains that their goal is to allow veterans to restore the teamwork and intense training skills they learned in the military and perform missions with a purpose.

An upcoming journey is a paddle board trek down the Mississippi River from its headwaters in northern Minnesota. Matejcek will join veteran Dan Schenstrom in the journey and will include flags dedicated to those who have been killed in action since 9/11 in the Global War on Terrorism. The trip begins September 1. They plan to hold a rally in St. Paul in mid-September.
