Owatonna scored early and often to open the girls lacrosse season with a 17-2 victory over Northfield at the OHS field Monday night. The Huskies scored in the first minute of each half and scored twice in less than a minute span on four separate occasions.

Senior Skyler Eaton had a hat trick eight-and-a-half minutes into the game and added a fourth goal in the second half. Senior Lyric Broton had a second-half hat trick. Four players had two goals apiece. Seniors Maylynn Prokopec and Molly Hawkins and sophomores Adrian Brueur and Annika Brown each scored twice.

After a quick goal by Eaton at 33 seconds, the score stayed that way until the Huskies started a scoring outburst about five minutes into the game. Over the next three-and-a-half minutes, OHS notched four goals. That included a great backdoor pass to Brown from Eaton.

Later in the first half, Chloe Schmidt made a nice pass to Hawkins as she cut toward the goalie for an 8-1 lead with about five minutes to go. Northfield scored their second goal of the game in the closing seconds of the first half. It was 8-2 OHS at the break.

Freshman goalie Zoe Andersen and the OHS defense held the Raiders off the score sheet throughout the second half. After the Huskies' Broton scored at 49 seconds, the score stayed at 9-2 for about ten-and-a-half minutes.

Over the final stretch of the game the defending Big Nine champion Huskies went on a scoring binge to put the contest into running time. Senior Kismet Richardson scored her first varsity goal about midway through the second stanza. Broton scored on a great give-and-go with Eaton. Senior Lauren Arthur capped the scoring with a late goal in the 17-2 victory on a chilly night.

Owatonna goes to Lakeville South Tuesday for a 5:30 pm start. The Cougars eliminated OHS from the sections last year.
