For more than 25 years the Owatonna High School football coaching staff has put on a youth football camp for players entering third through tenth grade. Many of those campers have gone from being participants to Huskies players and are now back as leaders at the camp. Quite a few current OHS coaches were once among the youth at camp.

The annual event begins Monday, August 5 and runs through Thursday, August 8 at the Owatonna High School stadium and practice fields. Camp is 5:30 - 8 pm each night. The cost is $75 and includes a camp t-shirt. Go to the Owatonna football website for the registration form.

Players in third through sixth grade will learn skills related to all positions on offense and defense plus the kicking game. Athletes entering seventh through tenth grade will pick a position on offense and defense to focus on. Overall the group is divided into four age groups.

The camp's main goal is to teach fundamentals through individual drills and lead-up games. Many stations are set up around the main varsity field for the younger players. They move quickly from skill to skill and are kept busy at each stop along the way.

Hy-Vee Foods will host a hot dog cookout on Wednesday. Owatonna Parks and Recreation sign up is also on Wednesday.

Owatonna football also announces a pre-sale for the Huskies card offering discounts to local businesses. Click here for details.

Practice begins for the two-time defending state champion Huskies on Monday, August 12. The season opens Friday, August 30 with a home game against Rochester Century. Get a sneak peak at the fall sports broadcast schedule.
