Innovative Owatonna Tradition Going Strong After 50 Years

It began a half-century ago in Owatonna and is going strong today. The Owatonna Chamber Ambassadors celebrated their 50th anniversary with their Golden Opportunity dinner last weekend. The event raises money for the Ted G. Ringhofer Scholarship.

"In 1972, Ted G. Ringhofer and the Chamber created the Ambassador program to be the welcoming arm of the Chamber," states the Tuesday Talk e-newsletter from the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism (OACCT).

"His idea was so good that 50 years later the Ambassadors are still going strong-welcoming new members, hosting groundbreaking and ribbon cuttings, supporting a scholarship for a high school senior and getting behind the chamber initiatives."

The 2021 Ted G. Ringhofer Scholarship was awarded to Owatonna High School's Jenna Gleason.

Tuesday Talk also reports that the Harry Wenger Marching Band Festival "will be holding this year's festival in the traditional manner. They will be completely in person and running the full route on Saturday, June 18, 2022."

The chamber invites people to attend the Hometown Sampler Concert Series to bring in money and food for Community Pathways of Steele County. Dates and times include Friday, March 4 at 7 pm, Saturday, March 5 at 3 pm and 7 pm, and Sunday, March 6 at 2 pm. The event is held at the Little Theatre of Owatonna.

The promotional graphic states, "Join for a weekend of concerts featuring talented local musicians and support our community hunger needs. Admission of food or monetary donation."
