February 20 is National Love Your Pet Day. If money spent translates to love we Americans sure love our pets. Americans spent around 70 billion dollars on their pets in 2017. There are estimates that Americans spent around 750 million dollars on their pet this year just for Valentines Day.

The folks at OPPLOANS compiled a list of money spent on pets by state. Americans on average spend around $126  a month on their pet. Delaware is home to the big spenders averaging $311 per month spent on their pet. The folks in Idaho get by on $20. We Minnesotans average about $86 a month on our pets.

Recently the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld passed away. It's come out that he had hired two maids to tend to his cat Choupette. One of their jobs was to write down everything the cat did when Lagerfeld was away. Choupette even ate at the same table at dinner time with her master and had her own iPad. I wonder what's going to happen to her now after her master died this week.

Here's my grubby old pet. Ginger the cat is probably close to 15 years old and lives in my playhouse. That's an old granary converted into a man cave. She's got carpet, lots of blankets and her own territory. She does not want any other cat near her home.My wife found her in a dumpster so she's moved up in the world the decade or more I've had her.

Happy National Love Your Pet Day
