This weekend will be your opportunity to teach a kid how to hunt small game. Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22 is the Take a Kid Hunting Weekend. This means adult Minnesota residents accompanied by a youth younger than age 16 may hunt small game without a license. Keep it mind that you still need to follow the limits and other regulations.

Looking ahead, the first Statewide Youth Deer Season is next month. It will run during the statewide teacher workshops so many won't have school. Dates are Thursday, October 17 through Sunday, October 20. An adult without a license may accompany youth ages 10-13 during the hunt. The youth deer season first began in 2004 in northwestern Minnesota and this year it includes the entire state.
