Comedy Central's 'The Daily Show' sent one of their correspondents to Northern Minnesota to record a segment that recently aired on an episode of the show.

Airing on Wednesday, February 21, the segment featured Michael Kosta interviewing a series of people in Duluth about, well, living in Duluth. Kosta's segment poked some fun at the challenges of living in Northern Minnesota in the winter while discussing how the city was recently named a destination for "climate refugees".

During the segment, Kosta interviewed a number of people in Duluth, starting with the City of Duluth's Sustainability Officer Mindy Granley. Granley revealed to Kosta that some people have already begun moving from places like California to Duluth for climate-based reasons.

Kosta responded, "So, you're telling me people are moving here from the 'good states'?" as part of his ongoing bit throughout the segment about being a "coastal elite" from New York while visiting "flyover country".

While poking fun at the idea of an outsider living in Duluth, likening the city to living on the Star Wars ice planet Hoth, Granley responded with a very "Minnesota" response, saying "There's really no bad weather, there's just bad clothing".

Besides visiting City Hall, Kosta and his film crew visited a few places in and around the Lincoln Park neighborhood, visiting with people on Superior Street near Frost River and in businesses like Corktown Deli & Brews.

Among people Kosta spoke with, former Duluth Mayor Emily Larson made an appearance, calling Duluth "Gritty, resilient, and real", saying Duluthians "work hard and really care about each other". Kosta retorted with a joke about how none of that fits what many people from LA are like.

Kostal also talked to a former Californian that has moved to Duluth about the transition to living in Northern Minnesota. Jamie Alexander said "it does feel like a different planet sometimes", sharing how she made the decision to move to Duluth.

Alexander kind of echoed Larson's comments about Duluth being "real" and how you're more connected to your neighbors here compared to where she came from.

Kosta concluded his segment with a snowshoe hike with Jamie, cracking some jokes along the way, and hitting up Cedar + Stone Sauna in Canal Park, where he got the experience of taking an icy dip in the harbor as part of the experience.
