Duluth Beer Among 6 Minnesota Beers To Win International Awards

Cheers! A total of six Minnesota-brewed beers earned honors in an international competition among thousands of beers from around the world.

The World Beer Cup awarded medals in their annual event, which is held as part of the Craft Brewers Conference. The annual worldwide competition included over 9,000 different beers from over 2,000 breweries around the globe.

Rising to the top among all of those entries are six beers made in Minnesota, with one made in Duluth!

The World Beer Cup awarded their gold, silver, and bronze medals in 110 categories on Wednesday, April 24. Professional judges award medals based on a series of criteria that exemplify the best quality in each category.

Minnesota ended up with two beers winning gold medals, two winning silver, and two winning bronze.

Minnesota Gold Medal Beer Winners

Nick Cooper - TSM Duluth

Duluth's Bent Paddle Brewing was one of two breweries to collect a gold medal in this year's competition, winning with their “Little Dussel Do-Ya”, which is a German-style altbier.

The other gold medal winner from Minnesota was the “Doppelbock” from Northbound Smokehouse & Brewpub in Minneapolis. This is beer won in the German-Style
Doppelbock or Eisbock category.

Minnesota Silver Medal Beer Winners

Excelsior Brewing Co. was one of the two silver medal winners from the Land of 10,000 Lakes, winning with their fruit beer, the "Big Island Citrus Blonde Ale".

Big Lake's Lupulin Brewing was the other silver medal winner from the state, winning in the Dortmunder/Export of German-Style Oktoberfest category with their “Dortmunder” beer.

Minnesota Bronze Medal Beer Winners

Rounding out the medalists from Minnesota are Mora's BeerClub Brewing, winning bronze with their “Doppel (doppel) Bock (bock)” in the German-Style Doppelbock or
Eisbock category and Pryes Brewing Co. from Minneapolis with their “Idyll Forest - Soirée” in the Mixed-Culture Brett Beer category.

BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery.
