We all would like to think that where we live is a pretty safe place, but sometimes statistics tell a different story.

Wallet Hub's latest study on the Safest States in America paints an interesting picture of the places where we reside.

The  5 major categories are:

  1. Personal and Residential Safety
  2. Financial Safety

Within these categories, they examined things like - -assaults, murders, & thefts per capita, the number of law enforcement & firefighters per capita, the number of families with children, job security, median incomes, DUIs, uninsured drivers, driving laws, climate disasters and more.

When they were done comparing all 50 states these were the top 10 safest states in the U.S.:

  1. Vermont
  2. Maine
  3. New Hampshire
  4. Utah
  5. Massachusetts
  6. Connecticut
